Our Cougar |
The mascot at our local school is a cougar, and although, a real cougar is a fearsome predator who is reclusive around humans, our costumed cougar is usually exceptionally friendly. Wearing the cougar outfit for games and pep rallies is a sought after privilege. Students usually ask well in advance if they can be the cougar for each event, but after twenty minutes in this heavy suit, they are sweating and begging to be relieved. So, the costume is passed on to the next person who is impatient to get the crowd cheering for the team. Screaming, screeching, stomping, and waving, the audience responds to this animal. After the last homecoming game, our beloved cougar had suffered an injury - his tail had become detached from his derriere! Today the surgery and reattachment took place in my sewing room. I stitched him back together by machine, and it looks like it will hold for another few decades of Cougar Pride. Thus ends my tale of a tail!
