Baguette, Monaco |
I would guess the woman standing in the bread aisle was in her eighties. She was pushing her cart slowly, checking out the prices on the loaves as I pulled up behind her. I made a comment about the prices of baked goods being so high these days, and that led to a lengthy conversation about being alone, spending money on a loaf of bread when it might go bad before it was gone, and other ways to save a few dollars. She recalled a time when a loaf of bread cost 29 cents! It was a delightful conversation between strangers. I hope my friendly overture brightened her day.
