Girl Scouts at Coat Drive |
A troop of local fifth grade Girl Scouts was holding a coat drive today. I love to support these grassroots efforts for community outreach, particularly when they are run by children. I gathered up several winter coats this morning, piled them in the van, and headed to the Fire Station where the girls were waiting. Their leader explained that the coats would be available for people through the school, and then at the church-run thrift store. Any that are not taken will be sent to another organization to hand out this winter. What a win/win situation for everyone. The children performed a great service; I cleaned out a closet, and those needing a heavy jacket will have one. Thanks to the Girl Scouts for coordinating this event!
