Breezy Point, NY Prior to the Storm |
When a natural disaster strikes anywhere in the world, most of us pause for some time, stunned by the power of nature and saddened by the destruction. When the cameras are packed up and the reporters move on to another assignment, it is easy to forget that for these victims, the struggle to rebuild communities is only just beginning. It has been one year since Superstorm Sandy struck the East Coast , and many of those in its path are still displaced and discouraged. We have good friends from the Breezy Point area whose neighborhoods were destroyed by water and fire. Some of them have been able to rebuild and are slowly returning. Our friends are now back in their house, but it has been a difficult process, and to let them know they are in our thoughts, I sent them a small gift to express our hope and joy for their future. My request to you is very simple. Please take the time to call, send a card, or surprise someone with a present just to say that you have not forgotten the ordeal they have been experiencing. Let me know that you contacted someone. Have a blessed day!
