| Trying Out the Bed Risers |
Serendipity - happy, chance finds. Sometimes, in the process of weeding out and sorting through years of accumulation, one comes upon an item once useful, but now unwanted. What is the likelihood that very day of someone mentioning she needs the thing you were ready to discard? Take bed risers, for example. These are valued by college students because they offer them additional storage under the bed in an already cramped room. For the rest of the population, they are less commonly used. I was prepared to throw a set of risers in the trash when a former student mentioned she needed to buy some. "Don't buy any." I exclaimed," I discovered some yesterday, and we have no use for them." I gave those risers to her today, and she was mighty pleased to receive them. They have already come in handy in Connecticut and New York City, and now they are heading to Vermont!
