Aug. 8, 2013 Military Service#TurningBlue
There is an expectation that high school seniors should continue their education and go on to college. And, in fact, many do head off to college to discover that it isn't for them, at least, not at this moment in their lives. Another option is joining a branch of the military. As stereotypes goes, mothers fear this, fathers are proud, and siblings miss their brother or sister who left the family to return as a disciplined man or woman. One of my former students just completed his basic training. He was a smart, conscientious student in school who had planned to attend college, but he decided to enlist instead. He will make an excellent soldier and defender of our country. I am as proud of him as if he had just graduated with his college degree. I sent him a card today with my congratulations and thanks for his service to the USA.
